Feel Like Hibernating?

If you feel like slowing down, getting more sleep, and going within to explore more of who you are or to redefine your business, realize that this is natural as our bodies attempt to be in sync with the natural cycles of the seasons. In the Western hemisphere, we are celebrating winter. The drop in temperature, less light, and shorter days all contribute to our bodies wanting to slow down.

We are all part of this web of life. When temperatures drop and we have less daylight, the plant world goes dormant and many animals hibernate. Our intuitive wisdom wants us to do the same. Take this time to slow down to reflect on your life. Are you living what brings you joy? Are you taking care of all of your needs emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually, and sexually? Do you need to take some time to journal and go within to redefine your life? Slowing down just might allow you to discover some creative ideas for your life.

So often we just keep forging ahead negating the messages our bodies are attempting to tell us. Obviously, we cannot hibernate, but we can choose to slow our lives down to re-energize, re-engage, and reflect on our life. This is all part of going with the flow: the flow of the seasons, the flow of intuitive wisdom, the flow of spirit, and the flow of the web of life. The plant world is being gently nurtured in the belly of Grandmother Earth waiting to blossom in the spring when the rains come, the sun intensifies, and the days lengthen. Maybe there is an idea within you that needs nurtured over the winter to blossom in the spring when everything comes alive again.

Live at a Slow SIZZZL

There is a huge shift happening on the planet that we are all feeling in one way or another. Some of you are comfortable with it, you are excited about it, and you are shifting how you engage personally and professionally to ride the crest of this wave. You realize we are redefining how we engage with each other personally and professionally. We need to create an inclusive world that resonates with a relational consciousness. Even if you are excited with this shift and you are riding this wave, it is a fast moving wave. Some of you may be spinning because you feel this energy, but you are not clear what is happening and what it means for you personally or for business. If this is the case, you are in an energy spin that is winding you up faster and faster which creates tension, stress, and fear of the unknown.

The second energy we are all feeling now is the expectations of the holidays. It is coming at us from the news media, from invitations to parties, annual family gatherings, holiday decorating, & gift giving with possibly less money available this year for many. You have two energies that can either energize you or literally take you out.

How can you gain energy? This is working with a Slow Sizzzl.

1.     Make the time each morning to sit in silence to quiet your mind and slow your body down. Your brain is going to tell you that you do not have the time. This is exactly why you need to make the time. Call it prayer, meditation, or just plain down time, but slow your body down. You need to plant your feet on the ground to soak in the energy of Grandmother Earth. Your thoughts on all you have to do for the day will enter your mind. Let them enter your mind and let them go out of your mind. Sit for 3, 4, 5 minutes or if you can, 15 minutes. Listen to your breath, feel your heart beat, feel the gift of life. Slowing yourself down in the morning will actually allow you to get more done as you will be more efficient, more decisive, and more focused.

2.     Live slower. Speak slower, drive slower, eat slower. Engage in the moment. Appreciate the beautiful, simple things in life that make life so magnificent. We are always rushing to engage in the next greatest thing. We miss the simple things in life. It is really hard for us to slow down, engage, and soak up the moment. Sit still in the morning to listen to your own body being breathed. Feel your heart pump the blood throughout your body. Feel life that is you. What a miracle. Enjoy the new fallen snow. Appreciate that each snowflake is unique. Engage with a friend. Really listen with your ears, your heart, your eyes, and your body to what your friend is saying without rushing to tell your story.

What these activities will do is to help ground you, help you gain clarity on what is important for you in life, and help you be more decisive on how you want to celebrate the holiday season. When we physically slow down, we sizzzl deeper which is the ability to see more depth and meaning in the simple things in life, and we sizzzl smooth which means we go with the flow in life.

Tradition or Obligation

Once we celebrate Thanksgiving this week, we move into a month of celebration which includes Hanukkah, Islamic New Year, Winter Solstice, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, and ending with New Year’s Eve. Life speeds up with busyness, craziness, over commitment, expectations, and obligations. The holidays trigger stress, anger, confusion, and depression for many. It seems as if everyone should magically be transported into a Norman Rockwell portrait for their family celebration.

There are expectations we have for ourselves, for others and expectations we allow others to place on us. We all seem to have this fantasy Read the rest of this entry »

Mirror Mirror on the Wall

We get so caught up in society’s definition of beauty. Have you ever noticed that for women it is always changing? After we spend all of our time & money fitting in to a certain look both in physical shape and fashion, society then decides to change what the “in” ideal is. Hmmm. Could it be for the money to keep the economy strong or could it be to keep us so preoccupied with wanting to fit the ideal that we never have the time or energy to really focus on our power to effect change in a world created to keep us trapped in fear? It is a game. The more we play it, the more trapped we become. We need to stop playing the game and support each other in realizing our innate beauty and power.

We are beautiful as we are. Beauty is not a size, it is an energy. A favorite quote of mine is by Naomi Wolf. “A cultural fixation on female thinness is not an obsession about female beauty but an obsession about female obedience.” We need to redefine beauty. It will empower us, our sisters, and change our ability to effect change in the world. What if we defined beauty as:

  • The sparkle in our eyes that reflects our love for life and humanity
  • The stride in our step that stands for a focused, commitment to purpose
  • Our smile that comforts and radiates trust to live peacefully as one
  • The resonance of our voice that inspires others to dream big
  • The energy of our presence that lifts others to discover freedom

It is up to us to redefine the characteristics that reflect beauty in all women. It is up to us to go to a deeper level that unites us as opposed to the superficial thought process that is divisive. We need to live from our core which resonates with our divine essence. This energy is contagious, life-changing, healing, creative energy. This is who we are. Our bodies are only a shell for this trip on the planet. Our beauty is the energy within each shell.
